Lyrical Bio
I can still remember that summer evening, sitting in my dad's yellow Chrysler Cordoba, when "Cornflake Girl" by Tori Amos came on the radio (right around its debut, no doubt) and my dad said, "Pay attention to the words in this song,". From that moment on, I began a whirlwind love affair with songwriting and melodic endeavors. I never was one to pick up the guitar or beg my folks to drag me to piano lessons; it was never about that for me. When it came to producing individual composition, I was always that kid who sat in silence next to a bonfire, singing little tunes to myself as if creating a lullaby for a future sweetheart. Those moments as a kid, the jotting in little notebooks, the blarings of Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrisette, and the gut-wrenching individuality I would try to find with my own vocals are still pieces of my past that play into my present. I picked up the piano about a year ago (finally, right?) and have been opening up more and more with words. When it comes to my work specifically, my 'perfecting' doesn't lie in 'sounding on key' or a 'really good hook' but allowing the organic approach in my writing and honesty in my vocals to come through. Someone once asked me, "Who are you writing about?" and I think my answer is anyone from my past and the people I haven't met yet. Friends, Lovers, Heartaches, Mentors...they are all brought to the surface. And continuing forward, I think it's time to unleash them, finally, from my point of view.
